JACK WALTERS

It is with great regret Notts AC announce the death of Life Member Jack Walters on Friday 21st October at the age of 87.

Jack was a universally respected gentleman known throughout the County and the Midlands for his good humour and mild manner.  He was a truly professional timekeeper at literally thousands of events from school events upwards, regularly officiating at more than 100 events per year.  He never missed a Notts 10 Mile since its inaugural run in 1972, a stretch of 45 consecutive years.

Jack was always ready to officiate at any event large or small, never too proud to help in any way often with little or no recognition.

He began running with Players AC in the 1960’s and became the Club Chairman.

In the early 70’s a young Trevor Muxlow joined Players AC and recalls how competitive Jack was even in training.  “We often ended up racing in training as Jack wanted to keep me in my place; behind him!”

For his unstinting stalwart service Notts AC made Jack a Life Member and Nottinghamshire AAA gave him the honour of President.

Our condolences to go his wife of 59 years Pauline, Son Phillip and Daughter Julie.

Jack’s funeral will take place on November 8th at Bramcote Crematorium at 2:45pm
